About the TOEFL The TOEFL is a test of proficiency in the English language. It is a requirement for many non-native English speakers seeking to further their education or careers in the United States.

TOEFL Quick Facts

    • The test has four sections which always appear in the same order:

    • Reading (60-80 minutes, 36-56 questions)

    • Listening (60-90 minutes, 34-51 questions)

    • Speaking (20 minutes, 6 questions)

    • Writing (50 minutes, 2 questions)

  • Total time is approximately 3.5 hours.

  • The test is taken on a computer with a headset and a microphone for the Listening and Speaking sections.

  • Each section is scored on a scale of 0-30. A combined score, which is the sum of the 4 individual scores, is also provided.
